NCPA Show at DHS

2/22/2018

Dear DHS Music Boosters:

Congratulations to all the volunteers (students, parents, alumni, alumni parents, committee chairs) who stepped up to make the first NCPA show of this Winter Percussion season a great success!!!
Despite challenges with multiple events taking place on Saturday, parking, audio setups and a few last minute changes, our volunteers came together to ensure a smooth operation!  In addition, we also have a great support staff from the school (our Music Director, Administration, Culinary department, Janitorial Services) who wonderfully contributed to the success of the event.  We always get compliments from NCPA and this year was no different.  Our ability to successfully host these events is one of the top reasons NCPA repeatedly invites us to host each year!
I realize not all parents were able to volunteer for this event due to other priorities and scheduling conflicts.  But I encourage you all to volunteer when an opportunity arise so you can learn the ropes and help pass on the knowledge to future incoming parents.  Your contribution will help to ensure all of our children and the community benefit from this wonderful music program here at DHS.
These events are some of the few big fund raisers that we have to generate funds to maintain and grow the program; and your participation is what makes them successful!!!  Volunteering in this program is a great way to get to know your children, their friends and family, as well as your community!
Finally, I would like to also thank The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (for graciously providing us their parking lot to accommodate our overflow parking needs), Dubs Drum Basement for sponsoring this NCPA event, and our vendor, Iron Horse Kettle Korn.

Tri Ly,
Booster President

Dear DHS Music Boosters:

Whoohoo!  We just had our awesome 7th Annual Irish Guard Invitational this past Saturday!  I hope everyone was able to come out and see all the participating schools perform their shows.  This is the first year where we had the maximum number of schools registered for the event!  For those first timers, we hope you had a fabulous experience!

For all those parents who missed this opportunity to volunteer, there will be many more chances and we love to have you all come out to participate in future events for the benefits of your sons and daughters.  These events help raise funds that are necessary to keep the music program strong and allow the program to provide the musical and artistic experience that helps complement and broaden your child's educational experience.

I feel very blessed that we have a wonderful community of volunteers and I want to thank each and every one of our volunteers who came out to support this important fundraising event!  I realized some of our volunteers signed up for multiple shifts while others were just returning from their business trips but still signed up to volunteer!  I and the Board are very grateful for your support and dedication to the program.  Your contribution has helped us host another successful invitational and this will ensure that Dublin High School continues to be a desired site for WBA's future consideration.

Needless to say, hosting this event takes a huge amount of resources and human capital.  On behalf of the Dublin High School Music Boosters Board, we would like to acknowledge and thank the following organizations and individuals for their valuable contributions in making this event a huge success:
Dublin High School Board of Trustees,Dublin High School Administration,Dublin High School Athletics Boosters, Dublin High PFSO for their support and consideration of scheduling which allows us to use the DHS facilities each year for this event.
Dr. Kevin Grier for his amazing talents as our announcer for the event.

DUSD Custodial Staff for their dedicated attention to maintaining the facilities and supporting us throughout the event.
Jackie Lawson and the Dublin High Culinary Arts students for providing delicious catered meals for the judges and directors.

San Ramon Golf Club for their generous donations of golf cart rentals to help us get around the campus during the event.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for graciously providing us their parking lot to accommodate our overflow parking needs.

Our vendors: Iron Horse Kettle Korn, Mustache Mike's Italian Ice, and Rocky Mountain Candy for complementing our concessions stands. Aunty Nay's Leis and Wyld Guyz Buttons for their unique band products.
JAMS Music for their continued support of our program and providing instrumental products and services.
All of our sponsors who generously donated to our event.

And last but not least, we would like to thank all of our committee chairs for the planning, drumming up volunteer support, and reaching out to our neighbors and third parties to ensure this event was well staffed and supported by the community.

Thank you, again, for another great invitational!

Dear DHS Music Boosters,
It's hard to believe it, but we are at the end of the school year already!  And all the senior parents must be filled with all sorts of emotions as they see their sons and daughters come up to the stage to receive their diplomas.
Congratulations to all of our graduating seniors!

This year's ending is bittersweet as both Mr. Everts and Ms. Lopiano will not be returning next year. We thank them both for all they have done for the DHS Music Program and for elevating the level of excellence in the programs.  We wish them much success in their new endeavors!

As we move forward to a new future, we look forward to meeting and working closely with our new band and choir directors.

The DHS Music Boosters Board would like to thank you all the parent volunteers who came out last year to support the program.  We look forward to seeing all returning members next year and hope to see many new faces as well.
We also would like to say "thank you" for the opportunity to serve the Boosters community.  We had a very busy year and our students have done very well under the direction of Mr. Everts, Ms. Lopiano, Mr. Ward, Ms. Schulz, Ms. Brown, Mr. Peruzzi and Mr. Van Loben Sel.

Have a wonderful, safe, and cool summer!

Dear DHS Music Boosters Community:
First, the Board would like to say "thank you" to all the families who donated to the special fund for Mr. Everts' gift.  You may be wondering why we did not present the gift to him at Monday night's performance.  Mr. Everts was sensitive about receiving a gift during the event because he did not want to take away anything from the student's performance and recognition.  We had a tough time debating on what to do but, in the end, we respected his wish and presented the gifts to him in the band room in front of the students and a few parents who happened to make their way into the band room after the concert.

On the bright side, we were able to raise $800 for Mr. Everts so we gave him a $300 gift card to Ruth Chris Steak House, a $500 check for him to spend as he and Mrs. Everts see fit and a Thank You plaque with the message:
Thank you Paul Everts for your immense contribution to the Dublin High School Music Program by taking it from a humble beginning to an award-winning program consisting of not just musical and artistic enrichment, but also life skills development.

"Early is on time; on time is late; late is rude..." words to live by!

As you may know, Mr. Paul Everts announced to his students on Wednesday (4/19) that he will resign at the end of the current school year (2016/2017). This news has taken many students and parents by surprise. I discussed the news with Vice Principal Ms. Holthe on Wednesday and she reassured the board that the administration is very committed to the Music Program and that every effort will be made to hire a new band director to take over and build upon the program that Mr. Everts has developed. Ms. Holthe is also seeking comments/inputs regarding what qualification we would like to see in the next Band Director.

We are very pleased to hear of the administration's stance and commitment on supporting the Arts in STEAM! Losing two band directors (Mr. Everts and Mr. Lee Carpenter at Fallon Middle School) as well as a choir director (Ms. Allie Lopiano, who brought much success to the DHS choir program) in one year is a major setback to the Music Program in the Dublin Unified School District. At the same time, it opens up opportunities for applicants with new and fresh ideas to come in and grow the program even further with the support of the administration.
We are grateful that Mr. Everts has done a lot of planning for next year and has dates in place for the field shows for the fall season. This news of him leaving no doubt causes the Booster community to come together and work closely with administration to learn how we can help forge a smooth transition.
The DHS Music Boosters would like to thank Mr. Everts for his dedication and efforts over the last 9 years in establishing a wonderful music program at DHS. We congratulate him on a fantastic season this year and wish for him much success in his new job. We would like to also thank Mrs. Everts, who has been the foundation of support for Mr. Everts and assisting him with behind the scene administrative tasks such as scheduling and working with all trips and World Strides, scheduling the use of facilities, assisting him with end of the year awards, as well as heading up the color guards when no instructors are available.

Hello DHS Music Boosters!

Is everyone breathing a sigh of relief!?!?  I know I am :-).
It took a lot of work, a lot of coordination, a lot of face to face meetings by/with certain folks, a lot of support from DHS, FMS and DUSD administrations, and a lot of HELP from our Bamily of volunteers, but our NCPA Show at Fallon on Saturday sailed through pretty smooth!
We had probably close to, if not over, 1000 people at the event yesterday and a venue of this size would not have been possible with the help of all those involved.  Indeed, it is an "honor" to be given the opportunity to host this event and a sense of pride to have our community come out to make it all happen!
Thank you to NCPA for their close collaboration with us to make our show at Fallon a successful and safe venue!!!
Thank you to the Fallon Middle School administration and custodial team for providing the necessary preparation and support for this event.
Thank you to our wonderful community of volunteers (both parents and students) who came out to support the show and volunteered to make it successful!!!  Especially all those parents and students who are not in Winter Percussion program.
Thank you to all those who helped to plan this event, including securing the facility, getting the vendors and food trucks, preparing programs and signs, procuring and returning the rental equipment, reaching out to all the necessary parties to make it happen, prepping for the judges and directors lounges, organizing parking for over 20 schools with 18-wheeler semis, and so much more!!!
Thank you to the Winter Guards for showing up and supporting us.  It was a pleasure to have you all with us.  And congratulation on your maintaining your winning streak this past Saturday!!!
If you took part in this event give yourself a pat on the back ;-).
Again, thank you to all.

Hello DHS Music Boosters!

I hope everyone had a chance to attend the Concert Band District Concert last Thursday!  All of Dublin's elementary school bands, Fallon and Wells middle school bands as well as DHS concert band were present.  And what a spectacular show they put on!  I've always enjoyed this show because you can experience the progressive level of musicianship among the different grade levels and appreciate the wonderful, award-winning music program that we have here in Dublin.

At the show, Mr. Bertelson (of Wells Middle School) made it known that Mr. Carpenter (of Fallon Middle School) had officially announced his retirement!  He presented Mr. Carpenter a very nice, red music stand with all of his colleagues' signatures on it.  The love shown to Mr. Carpenter from everyone in the gym was just phenomenal!

And with that, I would like to remind everyone that DHS Music Boosters is currently raising funds for a special retirement gift for Mr. Carpenter.  We are asking for a non-deductible donation of $20 per family and please make check to DHS Music Boosters and put a note on it that it's for Mr. Carpenter's gift.  Please have your student drop it off in the drop box in the music classroom by March 15.  We will be presenting the gift to Mr. Carpenter at the Orchestra/Jass/Choir District concert on March 22. Thank you for your consideration.

This weekend witnessed our awesome Winter Guard, coached by Brian Ward, taking 1st place out of 11 in the competition at Oak Grove, SJ.  They started the season with a bang and they are looking to keep up the level of excellence throughout the season.  Congratulations, DHS Winter Guards!

Our Winter Percussion group also had a successful showing at the Amijo High School NCBA Competition.  The groups secured a 1st place in their division, High School Intermediate, and received a score that is 3rd out of all divisions.  Congratulations, DHS Winter Percussion!

To close, I would like to remind everyone that we shall have our Boosters meeting on Monday night at 7:30pm.  There are several important topics we need to discuss that require your involvement:

1.  Upcoming Board election
2.  By-Laws review
3.  Scholarship review
4.  Upcoming NCPA show at Fallon that we will be hosting
5.  Fundraisers

Please make time to attend the boosters meeting as your participation is important to our success and the DHS Music Program.

Thank you,
Tri Ly

Hello DHS Irish Guard Community:

This past Saturday was the first competition for Winter Guard at Amador Valley High School and the first competition for Winter Percussion at California High School.  Congratulations to the Winter Guard for a fabulous 2nd place performance!  What a great way to start your season!

We would also like to thank you all the parent volunteers who came out to support the Winter Percussion with Pit Crew duties and helping out to drive the students!

We have one more competition on March 4th and then, we shall take our turn to host the NCPA Show at DHS on March 11th!  We are still looking for a couple more committee members to help out with the planning of this event!  We need help with the following positions:

1.  Advertiser - Solicit sponsorship for our show.

2.  Hospitality - Take care of ordering food for judges/staff/directors, prepare judges lounge/critique room, prepare staff/directors lounge, and possibly provide local transportation for judges.

You will be mentored so please consider helping!

This show is one of the few large fund raiser events we hold each year to help fund the DHS Music Program and it needs the help of the whole DHS Irish Guard Community to make it successful.

Please contact me at president@dhsirishguard.org if you are ready to contribute to your community.

Hello DHS Music Boosters:

What a fantastic weekend for the DHS Irish Guard Marching Band and Color Guards!

Congratulations to Mr. Everts and the teaching staff, and the students for another top level performance at Vintage/Napa competition this past Saturday!  It's such a wonderful feeling to see all your hard work culminate with winning the Sweepstakes Trophy for the first time in over 20 years as well as grabbing 1st place for Class 5A!!!  What an amazing accomplishment!

Thank you Mr. Everts and your teaching staff for your dedication to the students.  Thank you Grub Club for feeding everyone that night and at all our events.

Thank you to all the parent volunteers who came out in force and traveled all the way to Napa to support the DHS Music Program.  I hope you were able to witness the joy and excitement from the students!

We have one final competition left, and we would love to have all our parent volunteers come out for their last competition event of the season (and for the seniors, their last event period!)

Again, congratulations to all.
