Hello DHS Instrumental Music Department FAMILY:
I hope all is well.
On Monday, September 14th during the daily bulletin, Coach Wade made a special announcement to say, "thank you" to the student body and gave a special "thanks" to the band/color guard for their tremendous support. LOVED THE FOOTBALL GAME!! Thank you to the fifteen or so parents who were there to help move equipment on and off the field. Thank you to the parents who sat with the band and helped handout water to all the band members, INCLUDING THE FALLON & WELLS BAND MEMBERS!! The night could not have been more close to "perfect."
Our next game is HOMECOMING: OCTOBER 9TH. We will need help that afternoon for the parade as well that night.
WEDNESDAY / SATURDAY REHEARSALS
Our attendance has been pretty good. Until the band/guard meets on a daily basis during zero period (who knows when that will happen?), the Wednesday and Saturday rehearsasl are the only time all of us meet together. Yes, testing is very important (excused). Family days - incredibly special (excused). Forgetting there is a rehearsal or too much homework (especially now that there is GAEL PERIOD so our students can get some of their homework completed) can be "over-come." At the time of this writing, weather permitting, we have four SATURDAY REHEARSALS until the next competition, as well as, Wednesday night rehearsals. Please do all you can to make sure your student is there. Thank you!
We are going to end the September 26th rehearsal at 12 pm so that afternoon the students can go out to the community and solicit donations. All the students are assigned to a specific area of Dublin. You can find this information on the website (will be available by Monday September 21st in the In The News section). The requests will be for different amounts, but all the requests will lead to their businesses receiving advertisement in a variety of ways; from concert programs to our website. On September 26th, we will need parents' help in driving their children to the various areas. We are giving the students two full-weeks to complete this goal. Our competition is OCTOBER 31. We need to get the advertisements in the program and to the printer by October 14th.
SEPTEMBER 21st - BOOSTERS MEETING
7:30 pm in the Band Room. We would love to see many parents at this meeting. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the needs of the music department and how the boosters can help with those needs. Thank you so much to all the parents who have volunteered or are volunteering at the LEVI'S STADIUM EVENTS!!! Also, there are many parents who are helping this weekend with the variety of fundraisers: SPLATTER / MEAT & SEAFOOD SALE. Really encouraged by the number of parents who are helping. CANNOT THANK YOU ENOUGH!!!
How can I (DUBLIN HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT) get my instrument to take home to practice? Ms. Lopiano (Choir Director) is here during seventh period. After school, she has made herself available to open the door for students to get their instrument. May I also suggest that the students use their GAEL PERIOD once in a while to practice their instrument? For jazz band/band, there are weekly playing tests on WEDNESDAYS. Orchestra will begin the same weekly playing tests beginning in late October. We are doing all we can to give the students opportunity to IMPROVE.
As always: questions/comments/concerns and even a "congratulations" you can email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or for EMERGENCIES call 209-642-2651.
I hope this message finds you have OR HAD a great Labor Day weekend. For many of us, the Labor Day weekend saw an amazing PAGEANTRY of "Friday Nigh Football!" Now for twenty-seven years, I have done my very best to keep in mind that we are creating LIFE-LONG MEMORIES for my students / your children. Last night - Amazing. Coach Wade came into the band room to share some words of encouragement. Prior to the game, he brought the team over to the band where they all enjoyed a moment together. And then the two became one as WE "trooped" over to the stadium. People in the parking lot being heard saying, "Oh I gotta see this." and "I gotta get a picture of this." Then, the way the students performed at the game. Color Guard dancing. Band LOUD. Student section moving down to where the band has been sitting for the last eight years. And the team dominated. And then for the first time in EIGHT YEARS (including this year), we went on the track to have an "Alma Mater" moment followed by some wonderful words from our Principal. ELECTRIC. If you missed it, you missed a "memory-in-the-making."
All this supported by some amazing parents! Parents selling our "accoutrements." Parents dancing as the band is playing! Parents moving equipment. Parents did a GREAT job getting over 120 students fitted in their uniforms.
I am grateful / thankful for all we accomplished Friday night. Now, onto the next game SEPTEMBER 11th. Wednesday night SEPTEMBER 9th at 8:15 pm, we need parents to attend rehearsal to learn how to move equipment on and off the field. We are performing PART ONE (of four) of our field show [at the game]. September 11th is also our annual MIDDLE SCHOOL NIGHT - a chance to make more memories and this time, with our two wonderful middle school music programs!
So, parents please make plans to be with us September 9 (Mrs. Everts' Birthday) 8:15 pm (rehearsal is 6pm-9pm) and continue to support your child's high school experience. Thank you.
