We offer a comprehensive music program which includes the Irish Guard Marching Band and Color Guard, Jazz Band, String Orchestra, Orchestra, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, Percussion, Winter Guard, Varsity Choir, Chorale, and Show Choir.
For over 20 years, the DHS Music Program has offered students the opportunity to perform and compete, including band reviews, field show competitions, home football games, choral festivals, concerts and community events. Our students have performed in many diverse locations including Hawaii, Disney World, Canada, Carnegie Hall, Chicago Music Festival and in 2016 we'll be venturing to Dublin and Bray Ireland.
IN THE NEWS
PARENT/GUARDIAN VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - UNIFORM FITTING: Our Uniform Mistress, Rosemary Brassea will be fitting uniforms the second week of band camp - Tuesday, August 11th through Friday, August 14th from 2-4 pm in the Band Room. She needs volunteers to make this process go smoothly. What does it entail? First, it's a lot of fun and gives you an opportunity to meet other parent volunteers. PLUS you'll get to meet the incredible students who make up the Irish Guard Marching Band. Primary responsibility is to ensure their pants and jacket fit, switch it out if it doesn't, label their garment bag, put it on the correct uniform rack, ensure their shoes fit, get them on the correct uniform rack and label the shoe cubby hole. It's that simple, but so much fun. If you can help, please email Rosemary at email@example.com.
7.17.2015 ARE YOU FIT FOR BAND CAMP? Band camp is just three weeks away, and contrary to what some might think, band is definitely a sport. This year's show is very physically demanding and will require those performing to march at 170 bpm (beats per minute) for 15 minutes. That's a 7.5 miles per hour running pace. Mr. V is getting himself ready and found this great article online. If you start now you will be "fit" for camp in less than three hours a week.
Also, check out the Irish Guard Marching Band & Color Guard page for important information about Band Camp. Incoming FRESHMAN & NEW STUDENTS, you'll need to purchase an instrument lyre, flip-folder and extra sheets for Pep Band (DHS Football Games). To order online select the appropriate item: Music Lyre / Flip Folder / Plastic Sheets (you'll want to have at least 15 on hand). To purchase locally, visit JAMS Music (a DHS Music Boosters Preferred Vendor).
Check out this feature by ESPN2 from the 2005 DCI Championships, which illustrates just how physically demanding marching can be.

It takes a tremendous amount of money to support a music program as outstanding as the Irish Guard. Contributions are used to pay for music, uniforms, instructors, competition fees, travel costs and much more. Without these contributions our programs would not be a success. As such, we rely on cash contributions from our students' families. These contributions are a significant part of our fundraising budget each year. For 2015-2016 School Year the budgeted cash contribution is $70,000. Have you made your contribution? For fee structure by participation click here.
You may also make your cash contribution via check made payable to DHS Music Boosters. Your student can deliver your contribution to the Band Room Mail Box (ensure you provide your students' name(s) to receive credit and your email address). You will receive an email confirmation from the Music Boosters when your payment has been processed.
FRIENDS OF THE IRISH GUARD
The success of the Irish Guard program would not be possible without the support of our local businesses. Every year during field show season our musicians and color guard take to the to streets to solicit donations to help finance our program. The Dublin community has been tremendously supportive and we'd like to give back to those who have been so generous. When shopping for products or services, please ensure you start with this impressive list of businesses who have contributed to the Irish Guard this year.
